What's Inside:

Built around ripe, fruity notes—cherry, raspberry, strawberry, Blackcurrants, and blueberry—Crimson rests on a pairing of ouds: Rayong and Koh Kong. Somewhat balsamic, somewhat fruity, a tad dark, yet crisp and fresh (thanks to patchouli). That duality made it hard to finalize early on. I needed time to understand what it was really reaching for.

Strangely, the name didn’t come from the scent itself, but from the sight of a dark cherry leather hide nearby. Crimson—that’s what it felt like. I was going to leave it at that. Except, I didn’t.

I kept coming back to it, still unsure what was missing. Perfumery, for me, is as much about conceptual clarity as it is about olfactory expression. It wasn’t until I reached into my stash of Cambodi ouds—specifically the 2015-period Koh Kong from Al Hashimi, along with 2007 and 2009 vintages from a third-generation distillery—that everything clicked. Each oil carries its own imprint of time and place, giving the blend a layered depth.

This isn’t an oud-forward fragrance. The ouds don’t sit on top—they melt into the fruit so seamlessly that you might find yourself wondering: is that berry, or is that oud? That ambiguity emerged naturally as part of my work process, and honestly, it’s the most exciting aspect of the whole blend.

That said, If you prefer a more pronounced oud presence, I made available options to enjoy it with Cambodi Preserve, blended into your spray bottle as bespoke. I can't think of a better oud in my collection that pairs so beautifully with Crimson. For a greener, fruit-tinged oud that highlights the patchouli and subtle verdant facets of the blend, I’ve also added an aged 2018 wild Cambodi oud as an option.

I reserved the second half of this blend for another Crimson project. That might be a while until it is ready.

Red Sun - A Story of fruit and Earth

The First time I sniffed this fragrance I was taken a back by it volume . Fruits everywhere , strawbeeries , and bluebeeries hit me the most, ripe , maybe even a big overly so ( In a Good way ) makes the oud seem like it is fruity and not all barn , though I have to say there certaily is some Funk it is in fact the Good Kind , the kind which could also interpreted as some kind of Deep leather . The scent seems very polisched and well made. Everthing Hits the right highs and lows and it has Aura to back it up. I would even say it is a feeling that is beeing evoked . Standing on the side of a tree in the mud . The rain is long gone and trough the dense leaves you can make out the last red sunrays peaking trough and touching your Face .

For the playful Cambodi lover

Crimson Cambodi is magical for someone like me. The scent is super fruity at the beginning the red berries are very apparent, slowly as the scent transitions you’re met with an earthy patchouli that is to die for! The scent finally settles to a beautiful oudy base but the surprise is that those red fruity accords turn into beautiful florals that accompany the oud in the base in the most beautiful way possible!

Fruits without “squeak”

Fragrances with lots of fruity notes can often be difficult; I sometimes find them too “squeaky.” But here we see that it doesn't have to be that way. No squeaking, no annoying notes or anything like that, just a dignified blend of dark red fruits with a certain tartness. Strawberry is slightly dominant and adds a subtle creaminess to the fragrance.
Okay, there is a certain “punch note” in the background, which reminds me a little of a crumbly tea with a wild berry flavor, but I don't find it disturbing. As it develops, everything is gradually enveloped by spicy patchouli, before currant sets the tone and settles comfortably on a bed of oud with woody-resinous notes, light earthiness, and smokiness (very subtle!). All accompanied by an underlying floral note.
